Dominic Clarke 1 Seamstress 3VONMODE presents a Schorr-esque interview with Ellen Gibbons from photographer Dominic Clarke after their session Seamstress.

DC
Growing up have you always wanted to be a model?

EG
Well, yes and no. I'd often thought of modeling since the age of 12, looking in magazines and thinking how beautiful they looked. At about 14 or 15 I really wanted to, and sent a few awful pictures off to a few agencies, but to no avail. After that I'd decided to really focus more on my GCSE's and Alevels, as well as music and performing, so my thoughts about modeling kind of fell to the wayside a little.

DC
Were you always comfortable with your body?

EG
Unfortunately no not at all! I was about 5'8 by the time I was 13, so always felt very out of place next to my classmates. I feel like this affected my confidence as i went through secondary school, being about a head taller than many of my classmates, male and female, until well into Year 10! I find it so strange that my height, something I always disliked actually turned out to be an asset!

DC
Tell me about that male model you had to pretend was your lover?

EG
I've never had to get particularly close to a guy for a job, like kissing or anything. However you do sometimes have to stand very close and look quite intimate, which can feel a bit odd with a stranger!

DC
You could say that modeling has helped you out of the girl that felt ‘out of place' at school?

EG
Yeah it has a bit! Even after just a few weeks of modeling I've started to feel more confident and secure in myself, where once being tall and willowy seemed odd I'm now in an industry full of similar people!

Did you have conversations with your booker about the certain directions that you could take your look to? Or any changes that you could make to help you in the modeling industry?

EG
I think because I'm so new to modeling I haven't had any conversations regarding changing my look yet, I think maybe it takes a little time to assess how I'm doing, and then to see if any necessary changes need to be made to my appearance to make me appeal to a particular market. For now I'm not sure! I have been given help in finding clothes that are more suitable for castings and things though.

DC
Do you remember the first picture you tore out of a magazine because you thought the person was beautiful?

EG
I don't remember any specific pictures, but I remember reading through some French and English magazines whilst on holiday cover to cover at about 12, paying attention to the way the models in the adverts were posing as well as to the clothes they were wearing.
